The swelling could be due to one of several different reasons in the chest, but an internal tumor is a strong possibility. Strangely I had an even odder bird (<a href="http://toadsnatcher.blogspot.com/2009/03/deformed-chaffinch-elephantiasis.html">see here</a>) with a massively deformed head in March 2009.
