Glaucous Gull, Dogsthorpe Tip
One of two first-winters present. A clearly smaller and lighter built bird than the one that has been around for a while. Viewed from the road by the BP garage.

Black-necked Grebe, Orton BP
Still present today. This is favouring exactly the same part of the lake, just past the mound, as previous birds that have turned up here.

Glaucous Gull at Tanholt GP
© Will Bowell
After an apparent absence of nearly a month, what appears to be Josh Jones' Glaucous Gull was relocated today at Tanholt again. It showed well for about half an hour around mid-day, on the new pit. With Iceland Gull being found and photographed by Kevin Du Rose yesterday at Dogsthorpe Tip, both white-wingers have made an early appearance this year.

European White-fronted Geese near Deeping Lakes
© Will Bowell
Two adults and one juvenile.
Last winter four European White-fronted Geese wintered in the Deepings area, with the last being seen in early May. On the 29th December 2007, Malcolm Holley and Chris Lines had three White-fronted Geese over Maxey GP. Presumably the same birds were then relocated by John Saunders in the field to the east of the Deepings Lakes reserve yesterday. Perhaps the two adults are returning birds from last winter?
