Wheatear at RSPB Central Drove

Digiscoped in windy conditions; that's my excuse anyway! It's good to see so many of these birds this year.

Shelduck - Ferry Meadows

© Roy Norris
♂ Shelduck seen at Overton Lake Ferry Meadows today.

Dotterel, Blackbush

This beauty was with 3 Golden Plover on a cracking pea field at the south end. This is the same field that has attracted them in the past and should attract more in the coming weeks.

Arctic Tern at Ferry Meadows, 21.4.08

Single bird on Gunwade Lake, where there were also plenty of Common Terns.
Note the very short legs, the deep-red (not black-tipped) bill, 'clean'-looking pale wings, with neat black trailing edge on underwing, and the tail streamers projecting beyond wings.

Little Gulls at Maxey GP

The top photo is of a group of five which briefly settled on the pits mid-morning, whilst the bottom two photos are of one of the four which were present briefly in the late afternoon. All in all, Maxey had a good day with 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, 1 Greenshank and Whimbrel moving in and out during the day.

This morning's conditions produced many a good bird in the Deepings area, including these fabulous Scoters, which were still present at dusk. A rather rare bird in the area- especially away from Ferry Meadows where most records seem to come from!

Ring Ouzels, Folksworth

© Josh Jones
A case of third time lucky for the photographer, which was rewarded in the finding of a second bird. The newer bird is slightly duller than the original, so is probably a second-calender year male. The original bird can be recognised by limited white flecking on the nape.

Redstart, Ferry Meadows

This male Redstart was an excellent find for Don Gardener. The bird was often easy to locate thanks to its constant calling; a Willow Warbler-like "hueet".
