A juvenile/first-winter bird (aged by the pale 'scaling' on its mantle) found just outside Crowland by Garry Heath on 16th. He didn't have his binoculars with him at the time (he was fishing), but returned next day for a better look!

Long-tailed Duck at Welland Bank Pits

A fantastic find inland, especially during such mild weather. The last record was of an immature female at Orton Brick Pit, 6 November to 19 December 1999.

Common Scoters at Ferry Meadows CP

© Brian Stone

The last record of Common Scoter in the PBC area was back in August 2002. This flock of 20 female/immature birds were found on Gunwade Lake in the early morning, but had gone by lunchtime. Did they then fly on to Grafham Water, where a similar number was seen?

Bewick's Swans at Prior's Fen

"Bewick's Swans have individually-variable bills showing a great range. This particular individual had a very small amount of yellow, giving it an almost Whistling Swan appearance."

Rock Pipits at Prior's Fen

© Mike Weedon

"The Rock Pipits liked the flooded area under some old concrete sleepers piled up high - the closest to a rocky shoreline in the area. Though close, they were very hard to photograph, as they liked to hide behind the 'rocks'."
