This splendid bird was found by Jonathan Taylor this afternoon (10.5.07). Doubtless it is the female from Grafham, which was not seen today after about a week there.

Blue-headed Wagtail at Blackbush Drove

This female type Yellow Wagtail was collecting nesting material from the side of Blackbush Drove this morning. From the greyish, blue crown and nape and white throat and supercilium, it would appear this is of the race flava ('Blue-headed' Wagtail), more typically found in central and eastern Europe.

Photographed in wooded area South of Gunwade Lake. Having watched it for a while, I noticed that it moved from perch to perch in a confined area and I just waited until it returned to the best one for the shot.

A couldn't resist a quick dash out at lunch to see if I could better this mornings efforts. Light still harsh but this image is classic Ringo. The tall stance, the scooped 'banana' back and dropped wings.

Farcet and Blackbush fens remain one of the best places in our area for this fantastic farmland species which has sadly disappeared from many areas.

Ring Ouzel at Farcet Plough

On ringing Steve this morning over another matter, he told me that he'd just got back from watching a couple of Ringos in the field behind the Plough. So over I went and to quote Steve - bingo! In the field were two Ringos, a single Wheatear (my first of the year), a single male Reed Bunting and an adult Mistle Thrush feeding a young one; good field! Anyway, I post another record shot to add to Steve's.

Once more, champion local patcher and bird-finder josh Jones comes up with the goods. This time he found an adult Little Gull with a nearly complete hood (just a bit speckly), but with lovely dark underwings and pristine pale upper wings. It was at Baston & Langtoft pits, on the 'Corner Pit' when I saw it just before 3pm (15.4.07). The dark underwings almost gave the illusion of black in the wing for a mo while it was at rest, but when it rose up off the water, to carry on catching insects with the Black-headed Gulls, it showed its fully-adult wings.
