Sanderling at Maxey Pits
© Josh Jones
This Sanderling was one of two seen in the Deepings area today; this one showing far better than the other. Unfortunately, the batteries in the photographer's camera died after he managed to obtain just this shot of the bird, so excuse the quality. As they say, "one for the record".

One of a few waders in the Deepings Area today, this bird dropped in during a heavy rain shower.

Spoonbills at Deeping Lakes
© Josh Jones
These four Spoonbills were found by Ray Bowell as they flew in to the first pit at Deeping Lakes early morning. They then proceeded to show well in the far corner of the pit. They represent the first twitchable Spoonbills in the PBC Area for four years, and the first Deepings record since 2000!
Yellow Wagtail at Grummit's Scrape
© Josh Jones
As well as full grey-backed male Yellow Wagtail (seemingly just flavissima) being present this morning, this male also landed in front of the hide briefly - note the grey fleckings on the back. Birds in this plumage have turned up in large numbers this spring, presumably down to observer awareness.
Bar-tailed Godwit at Grummit's Scrape

This lone Bar-tailed Godwit was present from 12-13/5 at least, and is at least the fourteenth to be recorded in the Baston & Langtoft Pits area this spring - an excellent passage. Do waders get any better than this?!

Bar-tailed Godwit at Grummit's Scrape
One of three 'Barwits' on the tern island this morning (9.5.06) – two glorious red ones and a patchy, female-looking bird. Click the image for a larger version.

Turnstone at Deeping Lakes
© Will Bowell
This summer plumaged Turnstone was present for just the morning but was distant most of the time so only allowed for record shots. Found by Ray Bowell, it concluded a rather excellent bank holiday weekend down at Deeping Lakes with 11 species of wader being recorded; Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Lapwing, Dunlin, Snipe, Bar-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, Redshank, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper and of course this Turnstone.
