1st-winter Caspian Gull (with deformed bill), 10th Feb

Juvenile Glaucous Gull (the small, paler bird), 10th Feb

argentatus Herring Gull with retained juvenile plumage, 10th Feb

Adult Herring Gull with aberrant primary pattern and colouration, 11th Feb

Glaucous Gull, Tanholt Pits

This adult Glaucous Gull is the third (or fourth/fifth) to be recorded this winter in the PBC area - an excellent total. A very small individual (presumably a female), this bird was initially though to be an Iceland Gull but structure, bulk and short primary projection lean towards Glaucous. This bird is not much larger than a Herring Gull, and initially fooled the observer...
