Spoonbill at the Nene Washes

This Spoonbill was present on the pool near Field 12 at the Nene Washes today and represents the first bird in this area since 2008 ( as far as I am aware).

This Wheatear was present at Maxey GP on the morning of the 19th and (as far as I am aware) is the first bird seen at this site on Autumn migration.

Turtle Dove and Green Woodpecker, Farcet Fen

Gone are the days I used to get a dozen at a time in the garden here on Farcet Fen. This juvvy is the first of year for me here.

Green Woodpeckers are regular in the summer feasting on the many ant colonies we have around the fen including several in the garden.

Common Buzzard, Farcet Fen

When I moved on to the fen here in 2002, Common Buzzard was a rarity. Eight years on and I have two pairs breeding within a couple of miles of me and they are now a daily sight for me from the house. This bird was one of four birds circling over the house on 9 April.
